Administrative Technician

Emergency Operations & Cannabis Compliance Department

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Administrative Technician to support the Emergency Operations & Cannabis Compliance Department.

This is a long-term temporary opportunity with the potential to convert to full-time employment, as many employees have successfully done.

Position Details

  • Pay Rate: $23.00 – $25.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday- 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Assignment Type: Long-term temporary with possibility of full-time
  • Driving Required: No
  • Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Background Check: Must successfully pass

Position Summary

This position provides front-facing customer service and internal administrative support in a public-sector environment. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, and comfortable interacting with the public while supporting departmental operations, programs, and outreach efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional customer service in a public-facing, government setting, including responding to cannabis-related inquiries from the public and licensed operators.
  • Respond to inquiries in person, by phone, and via email regarding cannabis compliance requirements, applications, permits, and general program information.
  • Perform accurate data entry, filing, document processing, and record maintenance related to cannabis licensing, compliance documentation, and departmental records.
  • Assist with scheduling, calendar coordination, and internal communications for inspections, hearings, outreach activities, and compliance reviews.
  • Support cannabis compliance programs, including tracking applications, renewals, and compliance status in accordance with City regulations and procedures.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders to support enforcement, compliance, and regulatory activities.
  • Assist with community outreach and public education events related to cannabis regulations and City programs.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support during emergency operations, including documentation, communications, and coordination as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive or regulated information in compliance with City policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior customer service experience, preferably in a government or public-facing environment
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required
  • Availability to work occasional Saturdays for outreach events or special programs
